Tuesday Morning Recap

Gentlemen,

Tuesday we continued our series on the difficult sayings of Jesus with a discussion of Matthew 6:19-24.

“No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.”

1) How do we store up treasure on earth?

Chris said that we live in a world with certain realities. Bills have to be paid. If we are not careful we can forget about God’s claim on our lives.

Paul added that we have an economy based on consumption. We are bombarded with messages that tell us to shop till we drop.

2) How dose our heart follow our treasure?

Bob advised the money equals gratification. The more we have the more secure we feel.

Paul said that it is easy to trust in money rather than God to provide security. Many realize too late that money did not bring them security.

3) How can we be sure not to serve two masters?

Butch said that people don’t set out to serve money. They are afraid they wont have enough money so they spend their lives acquiring money.

Sam told us that he was the furthest from God when he was having success in business.

Jed said that he finds it easiest to serve God when he remembers all that God has done for us. Jesus gave Himself so we can have eternal life. Through His teaching and the Holy Spirit we have the ability to live abundant lives here on earth. When Jed considers all of this he finds it easy to serve God.

Next week Matthew 7:1-5. Consider the following questions:

1) Why do we find it easy to judge others?

2) Why is it dangerous to judge others?

3) How are we to judge others?

See you Tuesday.

John
