Wednesday Night Recap

Friends,

Wednesday we continued our discussion of the prayers of Jesus with a discussion of Matthew 6:13.

“And lead us not into temptation, But deliver from evil.”

1) Why are we led into temptation?

Carroll said Satan tempts us. He can’t take away our salvation but he can destroy our walk with the Lord.

Sarah added that we deceive ourselves into believing that wrong is right.

I believe that many times we sin intentionally. We know what we are doing is wrong yet we do it anyway. Jim said that we are have a natural bent toward sin and rebellion. Anne noted that even Paul wondered why the evil he didn’t want to do was the very thing he did.

In other words the question isn’t why do we sin but why do we do good.

2) How can we avoid temptation?

We can’t but the Holy Spirit can.

Only the divine can do what pleases God and the divine lives in each of us.

Jack said that as we feed the Spirit with God’s word we find it easier to avoid temptation.

Next week. Luke 11:5-13. Consider the following questions:

1) What does this parable teach us about prayer?

2) Why is it such a hard lesson?

See you Wednesday.

John
