Wednesday Night Recap

Friends,

Wednesday we continued our series on the prayers of Jesus with a discussion of Luke 22:39-46. Jesus prays for Himself and His disciples in the garden.

1) Why does Jesus pray that His disciples not file not fall into the time of temptation?

We agreed that when we are at our weakest we are most likely to lose faith. The disciples were tired, confused and scared. They were about to be tested in a way none of them could imagine. Jesus knows the trial that lies ahead but He also knows the victory to come. If the disciples remain faithful they will see God’s victory over sin and death. (more…)

Wednesday Night Recap

Friends,

Wednesday we continued our discussion of the prayers of Jesus. Our text was Romans 8:18-27.

1) What is the glory to be revealed in us?

Carroll said that the Holy Spirit is the glory of God in us.

The Holy Spirit is a part of what Paul is talking about in this passage but I believe there is a much more to this promise. The passage says that the creation longs for what is about to be revealed. The creation has been cursed since Adam fell and sin entered the world. All that is wrong with the world death, sickness, storms and suffering are a result of Adams disobedience. God did not intend these evils. He wants us to live in the garden with Him. When Christ comes again all will be as God intended — no more sickness no more pain. This is the glory to be revealed. Not just for us but for all creation. The Holy Spirit is a down payment on this future. (more…)

Gentlemen,

Tuesday we continued our discussion of 2 Timothy. Our text was 2 Timothy 2:1-7.

“No one serving as a soldier gets involved in civilian affairs — he wants to please his commanding officer.”

1) Why should we remain strong in our faith?

In this passage Paul gives three examples of what a person with a strong faith looks like. All three share certain characteristics: perseverance, hard work and adherence to the rules.  Bob said that our rule book is the Bible. In the Bible God lays out a blue print for a fulfilled life. Following these rules is not always easy but it is worth it. Bob added that if you love Christ you want to do what pleases Him. (more…)

A father brings his son to Jesus for healing. In Jesus absents the disciples fail in their attempts to heal the boy. When Jesus arrives the father ask Jesus for help. Jesus tells him that all things are possible for those who believe. The desperate father responds “I believe, help my unbelief.” After Jesus heals the boy the disciples ask Jesus why they couldn’t heal the child. Jesus tells them that this healing could only be accomplished by prayer.

1) What is the father’s prayer?

Jack said the father’s prayer was “I believe, help my unbelief.” He is desperate to find a solution for his son’s condition. This father has undoubtedly tried everything and has been disappointed many times. He is hoping Jesus can help but is prepared for another disappointment. (more…)
