10 Alive Recap

Friends,

Sunday we continued our series on Adam Hamilton’s book “24 Hours that Changed the World”

Our discussion centered on the flogging of Jesus and His journey to Golgotha.

1) Why was Jesus flogged?

Tom said that the flogging fulfilled scripture. “But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that made us whole, and with his stripes we are healed.”

Others suggested that perhaps Pilate was trying to avoid crucifying Jesus. If Jesus was flogged perhaps the Jewish leaders would be satisfied.

2) What is the significance of the punishment Jesus received?

Jesus was the innocent Lamb of God. He did not deserve the punishment He received — we did.

He took the whip that should have fallen on us and in so doing paid our sin debt and made us right with God.

We can’t fully appreciate the joy of the Resurrection without understanding why Jesus had to suffer.

See you Sunday.

John
