Tuesday Morning Recap

Gentlemen,

Tuesday we continued our study of 2 Timothy with a discussion of chapter two verses 14-19.

1) What is Godless chatter?

Dan L. said that what we discuss reflects what we are focused on. When we spend our time talking about wordly things our focus is not on God.

In the passage we read Paul is addressing two men who have proclaimed that the ressurection has already taken place. Paul writes that not only are these men wrong but that their words are harming the body of Christ. When we talk about Christ we must ensure that what we are saying is true.

2) How do we ‘rightly divide the word of truth’?

Jed advised that we can’t teach what we don’t know. We must spend time reading God’s word. We must also participate in study’s where we discuss the bible.

Chick said that we need to realize that there will be times when we disagree about issues which are not essential. In those instances we must sometimes agree to disagree. When we make a secondary issue a primary issue and then make it a test of orthodoxy we engage in ‘Godless chatter.”

Paul noted that the Holy Spirit helps us to understand scripture.

Next week  2 Timothy 2:20-26. Consider the following questions:

1) How are we to consecrate ourselves?

2) How can we best persuade people of the truth?

See you Tuesday.

John
