Tuesday Morning Recap

Tuesday we continued our series on 2 Timothy with a discussion of 3:1-9.

1) How can we tell a counterfeit teacher from one teaching truth?

A counterfeit teaches things that are at odds with scripture. We all agreed that the Bible is the final court of arbitration. Each of us should test everything we are taught.

Dan L. pointed out that a counterfeit teacher will not live up to what he teaches. Paul notes that a false teacher will live a life that is contrary to the word of God. They will be ‘lovers of self’ rather than servants of the word.

2) Why are people mislead by false teachers?

Jed said that many people welcome Jesus as savior but not as Lord. We want to do what we want to do. We resent God’s claim on our time, talent and treasure. There will always be teachers who say you can have your cake and eat it too. It feels good to worship a god who yields to our wants and prejudices.

If we are to be true disciples of Christ we must surrender our wills to His. He knows what is best for us — allow Him to lead. You will be glad you did.

Next week 2 Timothy 3:10-17. Consider the following questions:

1) Why do good people suffer?

2) Is there a benefit to suffering?

3) How are we to use the Bible?

See you Tuesday.
