Tuesday Morning Recap

Tuesday we continued our series on 2 Timothy with a discussion of 4:1-5.

1) What does it mean to preach the word?

Grady said that preaching the word means communicating all the truth contained in the Bible.

Dan L. added that we communicate this truth by the way we live as well as what we say.

Paul writes that we should always be ready to use God’s truth to convince, rebuke and exhort. In other words we must teach others that the Bible contains the secret to living a an abundant life.

2) Why do so many flock to teachers who tell them what they want to hear?

God demands that our will must yield to His. Todd noted that most want to do what they want. They like teachers who don’t make demands. We are comfortable with our prejudices and sin. It is difficult to change. However, God knows what is best and if we will allow Him He will transform us into the image of His Son. Only then can we live abundantly.

3) How can we know what is true?

We agreed that within the body of Christ there is room for different views provided there is unity around the essentials.

We can know these essentials if we submit to the authority of the word. Paul writes “All scripture is inspired by God…”

Next week 2 Timothy 4:6-8. Consider the following questions:

1) What does it mean to be sacrificed?

2) What does it mean to finish the race?

3) What is the ‘crown of righteousness’?

See you Tuesday.
