Wednesday Night Recap

Friends,

Wednesday we continued our series on the prayers of Jesus with a discussion of the 22nd Psalm.

1) Why does Jesus believe God had abandoned Him?

Carroll noted that God is absolute love and absolute justice. Justice demanded a penalty for sin and love provided a way.

Bonnie said that ‘abandoned’ is the wrong word. The Father never stopped loving the son. Jesus voluntarily took the punishment for sin. It would be more accurate to say that Jesus was separated from the Father.

2) What is the meaning of the 22nd Psalm?

The 22nd Psalm describes the crucifixion of God’s servant. Amazingly it was written 1000 years before crucifixion was invented. By quoting this Psalm Jesus is claiming it is about Him.

This is more proof of the truth of scripture and that Jesus fulfilled the messianic prophecies.

So what does all this mean to us?

You can’t begin to appreciate how much you mean to God until you understand what it cost Him to have relationship with you. As you begin to see the depth of His love for you your attitude towards God and others will change.

Next week John 11:38-34. Consider the following questions:

1)  What was the purpose of Jesus prayer at Lazarus tomb?

2) What does Jesus prayer teach us about prayer?

See you Wednesday.

John
