10 Alive Recap

Friends,

Sunday we continued our Jonah series with a discussion of Jonah 4:1-5.

“But it displeased Jonah exceedingly, and he was angry…”

1) Why doesn’t Jonah want the Ninevites to repent?

Jonah doesn’t like the Ninevites. He believes they are sinful and not worthy of God’s grace.

Robyn said we can be like Jonah. We appreciate the grace God bestows on us but sometimes resent the fact others are saved.

We discussed ‘The Deathbed Confession.’  A man live a sinful life and then at the end accepts Christ. Those who have been Christians all their lives and played by the rules find it hard to accept this outcome.

If we feel this way we don’t understand the value of a relationship with Christ. Salvation brings the reward of heaven but also abundant life here on earth. Christ offers the ability to live lives free of stress and worry.  Those who live outside of God’s grace can’t know this power.

2) Why do we disobey God?

Although we understand we should obey God we worry He wont give us what we want.  We want to be in charge of our lives.  The fact that we live in a culture that celebrates consumption and pleasure makes it easier to want to go our own way.

We agreed that if we are to grow spiritually we must stay connected to our church and Christian friends.

Next week Jonah 4:6-11. Consider the following questions:

1) What lesson does Jonah learn?

2) How do we apply this lesson to our lives?

See you Sunday.

John
