Wednesday Night Recap

Wednesday we discussed Paul’s prayer for the Colossians.

“And so, from the day we heard, we have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in knowledge of God.”

1) What is the purpose of your life?

We are to grow in the knowledge of God and live lives pleasing to God.

We discussed how much has been written about being successful or how to be happy. The world teaches that you must change your attitude or your circumstances. Paul says that you will find success and know your lives purpose as you grow closer to God.

This can be a difficult teaching to accept. We like to have a plan and goals to achieve so we know how we are doing. We would be more inclined to follow Paul’s advice if he would be more specific. Growing in spiritual wisdom doesn’t sound like much of a blueprint.

However, many of you shared that you only truly came to know peace and purpose as you came to trust Him day by day.

In the end Paul’s prayer is the best thing we can pray for friends and family.

2) Where do we find the power to accomplish our purpose?

The Holy Spirit gives us the power. As we feed the Spirit we grow closer to God and  find our purpose in lives that please Him.

Next week 2 Thessalonians 1:3-4. Consider the following questions:

1) What is the connection between faith and Love?

2) How can we love when we are being persecuted?

3) Why is it hard to love when things aren’t going our way?

See you Wednesday.
