Wednesday Night Recap

Wednesday we discussed Paul’s prayer for the Thessalonians. Our text was 2 Thessilonians ¬†1:3-4

1) What is the  connection between faith and love?

Paul writes that as faith increases love also increases.

Jack noted that the more Christ’s love lives in us the more we find the ability to love others.

Chris added that the world teaches that love is a give and take affair. We love others if they meet our needs. Once they stop meeting our needs we are released from the ‘love contract.’

Paul teaches that the ability to love flows naturally from faith. In other words my responsibility to love is not dependent on whether my needs are being met.

2) How can we love when we are being persecuted?

As stated above love is not a ‘consumer based emotion’ we love because He first loved us and gives us the power to love others. Therefore, we can love others even when they treat us unfairly. It is this ability to love unconditionally that has drawn millions to Christ.

3) Why is it so difficult to love when things aren’t going our way?

Tom noted that our lives are a constant battle between wordily and divine love. THe wordily side of us says ‘I love God because He blesses me” but the divine side says ‘Though He slay me yet will I trust in Him.’

Next week Ephesians 3:14-19. Consider the following questions:

1) What does it mean ‘to know the love of Christ’?

2) What would change about your prayer life if you took this passage seriously?

See you Wednesday.
