Hi, Everyone!

Our Captain continues his well deserved shore leave this week, and the deck-hands must carry on through the summer doldrums. This Sunday we’ll discuss an often cited scripture, Psalm 139. There’s a lot there, but here are some leading questions:

1)  Are you glad that God knows your innermost thoughts?

2) If God is ever-present everywhere, where is the enemy?

3) Should we hate those who hate God? Could you hate them?

Tuesday Morning Recap


Tuesday we continued our Galatians series with a discussion of 3:7-9.

“And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel beforehand to Abraham, saying, ‘In you shall all the nations be blessed.'”

1) Why does Paul write that we are children of Abraham?

Salvation comes through the Jews. It was Abraham’s seed (Christ) that paid a our sin debt on the cross thereby allowing all (Abraham’s seeds)  to be saved. That makes us all spiritually related to Abraham. (more…)


Wednesday Night Recap


Wednesday we Continued our series on prayer with a discussion of Ephesians 6:18-20.

1) Why does Paul insist that we should pray as often as we can?

Robyn said that the devil is always ready to pounce. He likes nothing better than to destroy families, friendships and churches. We need to be in constant contact with the Father to resist the devils schemes. Billy Graham is found of saying that if we could see for an instant the spiritual warfare that around us we would be motivated to pray without ceasing. (more…)

Tuesday we continued our Galatians series with a discussion of 3:1-5.

1) What mistake are the Galatians making?

They are toying with the idea that they can mingle works and grace. Paul makes clear that this is an issue on which there can be no compromise. Salvation comes from faith alone in Christ alone. (more…)

Sunday we continued our series on Jesus’ headings with a discussion of Mark 5:1-20.

1) Is demonic possession real?

We spent most our time discussing this question. We all agreed that people can be possessed by demons but disagreed about who can be possessed. Some felt that believers could be possessed by demons while others felt this was not possible. (more…)


Wednesday Night Recap


Wednesday we continued our series on prayer with a discussion of Ephesians 3:14-19.

“And I pray that you being rooted and established in love, may have the power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge — that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.”

1) What does it mean to be filled with the love of Christ?

Tom said that it means to have the mind of Christ. We should value what He values and do what He would do. In His earthly ministry Jesus never missed an opportunity to love. We should do the same. (more…)

Tuesday we continued our series on Paul’s letter to the Galatians with a discussion of 2:15-21.

“I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness could be gained through the law, Christ died for nothing!”

1) Why can’t we earn our salvation?

Bob said that God requires perfection and we can’t be perfect. Jesus Christ lead the perfect life in your place and then paid your sin debt on the cross. We gain righteousness through belief in Christ. (more…)
