Tuesday Morning Recap

Gentlemen,

Tuesday we continued our series on Paul’s letter to the Galatians with a discussion of 2:15-21.

“I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness could be gained through the law, Christ died for nothing!”

1) Why can’t we earn our salvation?

Bob said that God requires perfection and we can’t be perfect. Jesus Christ lead the perfect life in your place and then paid your sin debt on the cross. We gain righteousness through belief in Christ.

2) What does it mean to be crucified with Christ?

“I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me.”

Jed commented that being crucified with Christ means that we accept the fact that He paid the price for our sins.

We discussed the fact that our sin is no longer an issue with God. “Your sin is as far from me as the east is from the west.” When we stand before God He will ask one question — “What say ye of Christ.” I don’t know if He will use the Queen’s English but you get the point. If you have trusted Christ for your salvation you will enter heaven. If you have not then God will not weigh your sins, they were paid for on the cross, He will weigh your good works to see if you are righteous enough to enter heaven. Since no one is perfect your lack of righteousness keeps you out of heaven and condems you to hell.

3) What does it mean to live as Christ?

We spent most of our time on this question. We agreed that we are able to live as Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit. As the Spirit grows in us we are able to live lives that please God. Reminding ourselves of His truth through Bible study, prayer and Christian fellowship is critical to becoming the men God would have us to be.

Next week Galatians 3:1-5. Consider the following questions:

1) What mistake are the Galatians making?

2) Why des their mistake make spiritual growth impossible?

See you Tuesday morning.

John
