10 Alive Recap

Sunday we continued our series on Jesus healings with a discussion of Matthew 8:5-13.

“When Jesus heard him, he marveled, and said to those who followed him, ‘Truly, I say to you, not even in Israel have I found such faith.'”

1) Why was Jesus impressed with the centurions faith?

Tom said that the centurion showed humility. He wasn’t  Jewish and knew a Jew couldn’t enter the home of a gentile. He didn’t want Jesus to defile himself.

Bill added that the centurion showed compassion. He wasn’t asking for something for himself he was asking for his servent.

Deborah said that the centurion recognized who Jesus for who He was. Only God could heal the way Jesus healed.

2) Who will sit at Abraham’s table?

Bonnie said that the Jew’s believed their ancestry and good works entitled them to a seat at the table. Jesus, through this healing, is explaining that all who believe will enter heaven.

Jack noted that this is a difficult truth for the self righteous. He pointed out that those who had no illusion about their righteousness were the ones who were most eager to accept the gospel.

Next week Mark 3:1-6. Consider the following questions:

1) Why would Jesus heal on the Sabbath?

2) Why does this healing lead to the Pharisees wanting to destroy Jesus?

3) What is the proper application of this teaching?

See you Sunday.
