Wednesday Night Recap

Wednesday we continued our study of the book of James with a discussion of Lesson Three ‘ Living Proof’

“Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world.”

1) How does this passage describe living a good or godly life?

James believes that faith without works is dead. If we call ourselves Christians then we must live lives that please Him. We should lead moral lives and love our neighbors. Jack said that you can’t call yourself a Christian and sit on the bench. We must constantly seek out opportunities to serve others and tell them about the love of Christ.

2) Why do we find it difficult to listen to the Word and do what we know is right?

Annie said that we are selfish we want to lead life on our own terms. We welcome God’s teaching when convenient but reject it if it runs counter to our agenda.

Tom pointed out that the Enemy is always looking for opportunities to lead us from God’s word. It doesn’t help that our natural tendency is to sin.

Bonnie reminded us that doing the right thing is often difficult.

3) What can we do to stay on the right path?

We all agreed that staying connected with Christian friends is critical to Godly living.

We must spend regular time in God’s Word.

We must be connected to a healthy and well balanced church.

Next week  Lesson Four ‘Equality in the Church’

See you Wednesday.
