Tuesday Morning Recap

Gentlemen,

It was good to be back with you Tuesday. I appreciate Bob filling in while I was out of town.

We continued our series on Paul’s letter to the Galatians with a discussion of  4:8-20.

“…my little children, for whom I am again in the anguish of childbirth until Christ is formed in you! I wish I could be present with you now and change my tone, for I am perplexed about you.”

1)  Why is Paul in a position to correct the Galatians?

Paul speaks with the authority of God. What he teaches he received from Christ. At this time the church didn’t have the New Testament so they depended on the teaching of the apostles.

Grady said that we should be careful of any person today who claims to speak with the authority of God. We have the Bible and that is what we should look to as our final authority.

2) Why does Paul address the Galatians with such affection?

Bob noted that Paul loved the Galatians.

When we accepted Christ as our Lord and savior we became members of a large family. God expects us to love and support each other.

Bob L. said that sometimes loving our brother means correcting him. We must be willing to speak the truth to our brother and allow him to do the same to us. This can’t happen if we don’t stay connected in a Christian community. We all agreed that the ability to stay connected is one of the benefits of our group.

Next week Galatians 4:21-31. Consider the following questions:

1) What does Paul mean when he writes that Isaac was born through a promise?

2) What does it mean to be a child of Isaac?

3) Why does Paul believe we are free — free from what?

See you Tuesday.

John
