Tuesday Morning Recap

Gentlemen,

Tuesday we continued our Galatians study with a discussion of 5:16-26.

“But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.”

1) Why are the desires of the flesh against the Spirit?

Last week we discussed the fact that in our flesh we can do nothing to please God. Both our bad and good deeds are done out of pride or selfish ambition. We want to go our own way even though it leads to sorrow and destruction. Yet God has placed Himself inside us in the form of the Holy Spirit. He gave us the power to live lives of joy and significance. All we have to do is choose to live out of the Spirit.

2) consider the fruit of the Spirit. Does it describe you? If not why not?

Jim noted that Christian growth is a process. We are not where we want to be but we aren’t where we were.

Bob said that the closer he gets to Christ the more he realizes how far he has to go.

Jack noted that the text says ‘fruit’ not ‘fruits’ we should be advancing in all. We should be being conformed to the image of Christ.

Grady said that we can’t hope to grow spiritually unless we stay connected to our churches and small groups.

Next week 6: 1-10. Consider the following questions:

1) How are we to restore each other?

2) How are we to bear each others burdens?

3) How can we reap eternal life?

See you Tuesday.

John
