Wednesday Night Recap

Wednesday we continued our series on James with a discussion of Lesson Seven — Sowing Seeds of Peace.

1) How would you describe ‘worldly wisdom’?

We discussed the fact that people can have ‘book smarts’ yet not be wise. The Bible says that fear of the Lord is the begging of wisdom. Therefore, unless we have a proper understanding of who God is and our relationship with Him we can never be wise.

Jack noted that to he world this view of wisdom is nonsense. The world says that the person with the most education and broadest world view is the most wise.

Robyn said that the wisest and most influential people in her life have been those who were deeply grounded in their faith.

2) Why do jealousy and selfishness cause confusion and evil things?

The paranoid believes that everyone is thinking about them, however, the problem with the world is that everyone is thinking of themselves. Jealousy and selfishness come from being self focused and are tools the enemy uses to create conflict.

3) How does a wise person resolve conflict?

Chris said that we must first become wise and that requires growing closer to Christ. In addition we must think less about ourselves and more about others.

Anne noted that we must stand for the things that Christ would stand for. We should not confuse conflict resolution with capitulation to evil. True peace will only come with the return of the Prince of Peace.

Next week Lesson Eight — Trusting God.

See you Wednesday.
