Tuesday Morning Recap

Gentlemen,

Tuesday we continued our discussion of ‘Forgotten God’ with a discussion of chapter two — ‘What Are You Afraid Of?’

We discussed two main fears:

1) What if God doesn’t come through?

What if we pray for the Holy Spirit and nothing happens? It is scary to pray boldly for change and then nothing happens. Maybe we aren’t worthy or we aren’t spiritual enough.

Chan explains that the real issue is one of trust. Can we trust God to do what He promises? In His word He promises to give the Spirit to all who ask. Therefore, if you pray for the Spirit you will receive.

The second question is more frightening.

2) What if God answers my prayer?

Cahn writes: “The truth is that the Spirit of the living God is guaranteed to ask you to go somewhere or do something you wouldn’t normally want or choose to do. The Spirit will lead you to the way of the cross, as He led Jesus to the cross, and that is definitely not a safe or pretty or comfortable place to be.”

I hope we all will all pray for the Holy Spirit. Over the next few weeks we will discover what it means to go the way of the cross.

Tuesday we will discuss chapter three — ‘Theology of the Holy Spirit 101.’

See you Tuesday.

John
