10 Alive Recap

Friends,

Sunday we continued our series on our favorite bible verses. In spite of the teachers confusion we eventually located the subject verse — Philippians 2:12-13.

“Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; for God is at work in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.”

1) What do these verses teach us about God? (more…)

Wednesday Night Recap

Friends,

Wednesday we continued our discussion of Jesus’ “I am” sayings with a look at His claim to be the “Gate for the Sheep.”

“I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. He will come in and go out, and find pasture. The their comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”

1) What does this passage teach us about God? (more…)

Tuesday Morning Recap

Gentlemen,

Tuesday we continued our discussion of the Christians obligation to be submissive to government authority.

Clearly the bible commands us to be good citizens. Our primary role is not to change governments but to change hearts.

Henry raised an interesting question. What happens when a government ceases to be good or threatens our religious liberties? Do we still have an obligation to obey or are we to be agents of change? (more…)

10 Alive Recap

Friends,

Sunday we began a new series where we will discuss our favorite bible verses. Each week a member of the class will select a verse or verses and we will discuss them the following week. We will ask the same three questions of each text.

1) What does this verse teach us about God?

2) What does it teach us about people?

3) What does it teach us about the relationship between God and people?

We began with Philippians 4:4-7. (more…)

Wednesday Night Recap

Friends,

“I am the good shepherd; I know my own and my own know me.”

What does this chapter tell us about God?

God wants a personal relationship with us. (more…)

Tuesday Morning Recap

Gentlemen,

Tuesday we continued our series on series on Joy with a discussion of 1 Peter 2:9-17.

Peter writes that the hope that is within us binds us together. We are a ‘chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s own people.” We talked about the fact that we can’t become all that God intends unless we are joined in Christian community. We agreed that our discussions on Tuesday mornings help us in our walk but the most significant thing about our group is the connection we have with each other. We discover more about Christ through the love and fellowship share than by any teaching. (more…)

Wednesday Night Recap

Friends,

Last Wednesday we began a series on the ‘I Am’ sayings of Jesus. We had a great discussion about what Jesus meant when He said ‘I Am the Bread of Life.’

We talked about what it means to consume Jesus flesh and drink His blood. While we agreed that this is a difficult passage we concluded that Jesus wants a total commitment from us and that to live lives of joy we must stay focused on Him and the price He paid to have relationship with us. (more…)

Tuesday Morning Recap

Gentlemen,

Tomorrow we continue our series on hope. Our text will be 1 Peter 2:9-17. Consider the following questions:

1) Peter writes that we are a royal priesthood and a holy nation. What does that mean?

2) What defines us as a people?

3) How are we to conduct ourselves in this life? Why?

See you Tuesday.
