10 Alive Recap

Sunday we continued our series on our favorite bible verses. In spite of the teachers confusion we eventually located the subject verse — Philippians 2:12-13.

“Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; for God is at work in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.”

1) What do these verses teach us about God?

Paul asked if these verses indicate you ca lose your salvation. The full context of scripture, and St Paul’s own conversation experience, reveal that salvation comes at a moment in time and can’t be lost. This miracle is accomplished by God and does not depend on us. These verses are meant to remind us of the power of God and teach that the sanctification process requires a proper reverence for God.

2) What do these verses teach us about people?

Our purpose in life is to worship God and to do what pleases Him. In the gospels Jesus is constantly teaching us what pleases God. We are to spread the gospel and serve others.

Living to please God requires we obey His word.

3) What do these verses teach us about our relationship with God?

We were created to have intimate relationship with God. Indeed, we can’t be content or have purpose filled lives without Him. However, our natural tendency is to disobey God. We want to make our own rules and do what we want.

It’s amazing God is so patient with us — but thank God He is.

Next week Luke 1:37.

See you Sunday.

I read recently that the entire Bible shows us that we are to glorify God in everything we think and do. What say you class?
