Tuesday Morning Recap

Tuesday we continued our discussion of the Christians obligation to be submissive to government authority.

Clearly the bible commands us to be good citizens. Our primary role is not to change governments but to change hearts.

Henry raised an interesting question. What happens when a government ceases to be good or threatens our religious liberties? Do we still have an obligation to obey or are we to be agents of change?

These were questions that Washington, Lee, Bonhoeffer and King wrestled with. All Godly men how came to different conclusions.

I believe that the word of God should be the final court of arbitration for all issues. Therefore, we should take seriously our duty to obey our earthly masters. I also believe we should we should be bold in our defense of the Gospel. Hopefully these concepts wont conflict but when they do the Gospel must prevail.

I believe this country has moved away form God. We have become more like a European Socialist Democracy and less like the Constitutional Republic our forefathers entrusted to us. This means less freedom and more government control of our lives. We have already seen our government pass laws that limit religious freedom and I fear this trend will continue.

I take comfort in the fact that God is in His highest heaven and He will not be mocked. Many have gone to war against God and His people, none have succeeded.

Next week we return to our series on Hope. Our text will be Hebrews 10:19-25. Consider the following questions:

1) What power does the blood of Christ give us?

2) What is our role in the world?

3) How can we ensure we reach our potential in Christ?

See you Tuesday.
