10 Alive Recap

Sunday we continued our series on our favorite bible verses. Our text was Luke 1:37.

“For with God nothing will be impossible.”

1) What does this verse teach us about God?

Much of our discussion centered around the actions and words of Raven’s linebacker Ray Lewis.

Does God care who wins a football game?

I believe that God cares about every aspect of our lives and He is working everything together for His glory. In other words God cares about and is working His will in everything — including football games.

2) What does this verse teach us about people?

As Robyn pointed out it would be wrong for us to judge Ray Lewis. We don’t know his heart and redemption is always possible. However, his words indicate that he believes that by the power of his words he can conform reality to his benefit. His theology seems equal parts scripture and Vince Lombardi.

We can be like Mr. Lewis. We embrace Christianity if it helps us meet our goals. However, God demands that we surrender our wills to His. Our desires and prejudices need to yield to His word. If this doesn’t occur then we can’t be transformed into the image of His Son.

3) What does this verse teach about the relationship between God and people?

God has given us the tools to become the people He desires us to be. We have the Holy Spirit and the bible. If we are attentive to both we will eventually become the people God wants us to be.

Next week Matthew 17:14-21.

See you Sunday.
