10 Alive Recap

Sunday we continued our series on our favorite bible passages with a discussion of Matthew 17:14-21.

” For truly, I say to you, if you, have faith as a  grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move hence to yonder place, and it will move; and nothing will be impossible to you.'”

1) What does this passage teach us about God?

He has empowered us to accomplish His will here on earth. He wants us to be passionate about the things that He is passionate about. We are to spread the gospel, stand for truth and help the poor.

2) What does this passage teach us about people?

If we are born again then we are indwelt by the Holy Spirit. The same power that raised Christ from the dead resides in us. If we have faith we can accomplish more than we can imagine.

So why don’t we do mighty things? Perhaps we receive not because we ask not. Or we ask for the wrong thing.

This passage does not teach that we can have whatever we want. We can accomplish only what is in God’s will for us and our world. He has a good and perfect plan for all.  If we see through the eyes of faith we can discern His plan and rejoice in being a part of what He is doing . When we can’t see His plan faith allows us to trust that He knows best.

3) What does this passage teach us about the relationship between God and people?

God wants us to be part of His plans and He has given us the power to work miracles. We should to the things that strengthen our faith — read the bible, pray and worship.

Next week 1 Corinthians 13.

See you Sunday.
