10 Alive Recap

Sunday we continued our series on our favorite bible passages with a discussion of 1 Corinthians 13.

“If I speak in the tongues of angels but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal….”

1) What does this passage teach us about God?

God gives us talents and gifts as well as the opportunity to exercise them, however, if we don’t have the love of God abiding in us they are of no benefit to us. The use of our gifts will benefit others but we remain lost if we aren’t filled with grace. With grace our gifts glorify God and lead us deeper into the abundant life God intends for us.

2) What does this passage teach us about people?

We can use our gifts to draw attention to ourselves. Christian service can become an idol that is every bit as destructive as greed or lust.

The thing that most distinguishes those who follow Christ is a love for God and others.

3) What does this chapter teach us about the relationship between God and people?

God wants us to serve others in love.

We discussed how you can discover your gift:

a) What needs do you gravitate towards?

b) What talents do you have that help you minister to that need?

c) What do your fellow Christians advise about how you are gifted and where you should serve?

It is also important to remember that your gifts can change over time. Don’t be afraid to tackle new challanges.

Next week John 3:3-8. I will be out of town so dad will lead discussion. See you in two weeks.
