Tuesday Morning Recap

Gentlemen,

Tuesday we continued our series on hope with a discussion of Ephesians 1:15-23.

“…that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power in us who believe, according to the working of his great might.”

1) What is our inheritance?

Chris said that part of our inheritance is heaven.

Paul added that the Holy Spirit is our inheritance.

Henry said that our inheritance is the full power of God. Amazingly we receive this power at the time we believe, although most never realize the extent of what they have this side of heaven.

We have often discussed the issue of the sovereignty of God verses the freewill of man. I don’t intend to reopen that can of worms here except to say that there are many things in scripture that I can apprehend but can’t comprehend. Scripture says to me that God is working everything to my good. Therefore, at a minimum, receiving God’s power means that you don’t have to worry about anything.

2) How do we access this power?

Experience is the best teacher. As you trust God with a little and see He is faithful you will be encouraged to trust Him with more. Sanctification is a process and the best way I’ve heard it described is as follows: I’m not where I want to be but I’m no longer where I was.

It is also good to remember that God has infinite patience with us and He is always willing to help if we ask.

Next week Psalm 33:20-22. Consider the following questions:

1) What does it mean to wait on the Lord and why can it be so hard?

2) What is the connection between love and hope?

See you Tuesday.

John
