Tuesday Morning Recap

Gentlemen,

Tuesday we continued our series on hope. As Easter draws near we have begun focusing on scriptures dealing with the Resurrection. Our text Tuesday was John 20:24-29.

“Jesus said to him, ‘Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet believe.'”

For years this passage has been used to admonish those who demand proof before they believe. We refer to them as a ‘doubting Thomas.’

We wondered if Thomas hasn’t gotten a bad wrap. Grady noted that Thomas showed intellectual honesty. After all the other disciples only believed after they had seen the risen Christ. Thomas wasn’t asking for any greater proof than was supplied to the others.

In addition Thomas was an earnest seeker. He had not abandoned the others. He remained with them eight days waiting for Jesus to appear again. Jesus never turns away an honest seeker. He who knocks will find the door open and the one who seeks will find.

Bob said that in this passage Jesus is really speaking to us. Those who have believed by the convicting power of the Holy Spirit are truly blessed.

Next week John 20:1-10. Consider the following questions:

1) Why does John believe and Peter does not?

2) Why do you think Jesus roll up the napkin?

See you Tuesday.

John
