10 Alive Recap

Sunday we continued our series on difficult bible passages with a discussion of Hebrews 10:26-27.

“If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, but only a fearful expectation of judgement and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God.”

Most of us agree that we are secure in our salvation — Once saved always saved. So what are we to do with passages like Hebrews 10:26-27 ?

Jack said that the text refers to people who have a ‘said’ rather than a ‘real’ faith. They say they have received Christ but have not truly trusted him, therefore, they continue sinning.

We agreed that a person who truly understands the price God paid for them could no longer have a casual attitude about sin. Our sin cost God His beloved son. Each time we sin we again drive nails into Christ’s hands and feet. How could we continue to sin in light of this truth?

We also agreed that in spite of our best efforts we will sin. We were comforted by 1 John 1:9:

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.’

Next week Mark 10:13-16. Consider the following questions:

1) Why were children so eager to come to Christ?

2)  What does it mean to receive the gospel as a child?

See you Sunday.
