Wednesday Night Recp

Friends,

Wednesday we discussed miracles. Our text was John 11:1-44.

“Therefore, many of the Jews, who had come to visit Mary, and had seen what Jesus did, put their faith in him.”

1) Why did Jesus raise Lazarus?

We agreed that this miracle meant a great deal to Mary and Martha. They were devastated by the death of their brother. Jesus gave their brother back to them. However, all three would later die. Therefore, the purpose of the miracle was not exclusively about physical healing.

Jesus is primarily concerned about our souls.

By raising Lazarus Jesus is demonstrating that He has power over death and that by believing in Him we need never taste death. Our lives are brief but eternity is forever. He is the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Him. Many of the Jews who witnessed the miracle put their faith in Him — I hope you have.

Next week we will discuss Baptism. Our text will be 1 Peter 3:18 – 4:2. Consider the following questions:

1) What was the baptism of Noah?

2) Why should we be baptized?

3) How should we be baptized?

See you tonight.

John
