10 Alive Recap

Sunday we continued our series on Gideon with a discussion of Judges 6:27-35.

1) Why Did God ask Gideon to tear down the alter to Baal?

Before he could save the people Gideon was required to tear down Baal’s alter. God knew that Gideon needed to be focused if he were going to be able to do what God requested. It is important to recall that God wanted to do more than save His people. He wanted relationship with them. This could not happen if they served other idols.

We discussed how idols get in the way of our relationship with God.  We want to have our cake and eat it too. We want to serve God and enjoy the worlds pleasures. Don’t get me wrong God wants to bless us and there is nothing with enjoying what the Lord provides. However, it is easy to place ourselves and our desire for pleasure ahead of God.

God demands that we place Him first. If we want to be in right relationship with Him we must continually be on guard against idols and tear them  down when we find them.

2) Why did Gideon act at night?

He was ready to do what God asked but wasn’t sure that his friends and neighbors would understand.

Paul noted that when the villagers learned what Gideon had done they wanted to kill him.

We discussed the fact that when take a stand for God we often pay a price. However, Chris reminded us that when we stand for God He stands with us.

This week we discuss Judges 6; 36-40. Consider the following questions:

1) Why does Gideon ‘put out the fleece’?

2) God allows Gideon to test Him. Why?

3) How do we test God?

See you tomorrow.
