Wednesday Night Recap

Wednesday we continued our series on the Psalms with a discussion of Psalm 100.

Why should we give God thanks?

Fran noted that we thank Him because He is God. He made us and He provides for us.

Anne added that we should praise Him because He is good and always faithful. This means that we can thank Him even when things aren’t going our way because He always has our best interests at heart.

Chris noted that he is the only one who can give us eternal life and for that alone we should thanks Him.

How should we thank him?

We thank Him in word but also in deeds. Jesus said “You are my friends if you do what I command.” John 15:14.

I have shared with you that my greatest period of spiritual growth came after I stopped questioning God’s commands and started obeying. I found that my questioning and debating was an excuse for doing what I wanted. As Anne noted, if He loves us we can trust that He would never ask us to do something that wasn’t good for us. I don’t need to understand how God will meet my financial need if I tithe, I just need to obey. As they say at Nike — ‘just do it’

Next week Psalm 112. Consider the following questions:

1) How does the psalmist define the God-fearing person?

2) What are the benefits of fearing God?

See you Wednesday.
