10 Alive Recap

Friends,

I will not be there tomorrow. Jamie and I are enjoying some fun and sun (and rain) In St Simmons. I look forward to seeing you next week. Dad will be leading class and the text will be Mark 4:1-20. Consider the following questions:

1) What are the things that choke out the word and how can we avoid them?

2) If we hear and accept the word what are we suppose to do?

3) Are we bearing fruit? And how can we bear even more fruit?

See you soon.

John

Wednesday Night Recap

Friends,

Last week we discussed Mary at the empty tomb.

Why didn’t Mary recognize Jesus? Jack suggested that she was so focused on the task at hand that she couldn’t recognize Jesus. We all agreed that during times of grief and sorrow we tend to focus on self. When we are looking inward we can miss how God is working in our lives. (more…)

Tuesday Morning Recap

Tomorrow we will discuss Colossians 4:1-6. Consider the following questions:

1) What prayer does Paul request for himself?

2) What advise does Paul give the Colossians?

3) What is the application of this passage to us today?

See you in the morning.

Wednesday Night Recap

Friends,

Last week we began a series on the resurrection of Jesus and how this historic event impacts us today.

We discussed how women were the first witnesses to the resurrection. In the first century women were not considered reliable witnesses. In fact, woman were not allowed to testify at trial. Why then would the gospel writers record that women were witnesses to Jesus resurrection – especially if they wanted to persuade people that the resurrection occurred?

The only reason for including this fact is because that is what happened. The inclusion of the involvement of woman in the events surrounding the resurrection is strong evidence that the resurrection is true.

We also discussed how we, like the woman at the tomb, seek the living among the dead. Jesus wants us to live abundantly. He doesn’t want us beating ourselves up for past mistakes. As we look forward to Easter let’s recommit ¬†ourselves to living in service to our King.

Tonight we will discuss John 20:11-18. Consider the following questions:

1) Why didn’t Mary recognize Jesus?

2) Why didn’t Jesus want Mary to stay with Him?

See you tonight.

John

10 Alive Recap

Friends,

Tomorrow we continue our journey through Mark with a discussion of Mark 3:1-8. The conflict between Jesus and the Jesus leaders continues. For the purpose of tomorrows discussion it is important to understand that the Pharisees and Herodians were both leaders in the Jewish community but agreed on little. The Pharisees were like the social conservatives of today while the Herodians were supporters and associates of Herod Antipas. They were like the liberal political elites of today. They were often at odds with each other yet agreed that because Jesus healed on the Sabbath he must be destroyed. Why and what is the application of this passage to us today?

See you in the morning.

John

2) Why were the disciples reluctant to believe the truth?

3) How do we sometimes seek the living among the dead?

See you tonight.

John
