Wednesday Night Recap

Friends,

Wednesday we discussed Chapter four of ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’ and Luke 21:1-4.

Boo leaves gifts for Jem and Scout in a tree and a widow gives all the money she has as an offering. We discussed what motivated these individuals to give.

As a boy Boo got in trouble with the law and his father locked Boo away inside their home. Since that time rumors sprang up about Boo – he sneaks out at night, he eats squirrels, stabbed his mother in the leg, spies on neighbors, etc.

Lucia suggested that Boo’s gifts were born out of a desperate need for friendship. We can only imagine how difficult his life must have been. He no doubt longed for friends who would be kind to him.

Eric said that the widow gave out of love and devotion toward God. The only way you can be that radical with your finances is if you know God will always be there to provide what you need.

We talked about why it is so difficult to recognize the gifts God gives us.

Tom noted that we are often so focused on what we don’t have that we miss what we are given. Additionally, the blessings God continually gives are so numerous that it’s easy to take them for granted.

We concluded our discussion by exploring ways we can be more grateful and loving. We agreed that these attributes grow in us as we grow in our knowledge of God and what He has done for us.

Next week we discuss Chapter five and Mark 7:1-13 – Kill them with kindness

See you Wednesday

John
