10 Alive Recap

Sunday we continued our series on Psalm 51. We discussed verses 4 and 5.

Against you, you only, have I sinned
    and done what is evil in your sight;
so you are right in your verdict
    and justified when you judge.
 Surely I was sinful at birth,
    sinful from the time my mother conceived me.

Suppose you bump someone from behind with your car. The person driving the car you hit sues you. You hire a lawyer. Here’s how a good lawyer defends you:

My client didn’t cause the accident. If he did cause the accident then the other guy wasn’t hurt. If the other guy was hurt it’s not as bad as he claims.

Seriously, we hate taking responsibility for what we have done. However, real growth, spiritual or otherwise only comes when we see ourselves as we are not as we wish we were. David understands this. He knows that only the truly repentant are restored to right relationship with God.

We talked about how God hates sin – sin cost Him the life of His son. We must have the same attitude towards sin. We must flee from it or suffer the consequences.

We live in a world that encourages us to do as we please – no limitations. The bible says that a life focused on self can never please God. We concluded that the best course is to obey God’s word.

Great class. I look forward to next Sunday.
