Tomorrow we will finish our series on ‘A Love Letter to the Church’ We will be discussing pp. 90-94.

I hope you have gotten something out of this study. As I have expressed on several occasions this paper has had a huge impact on me. It has drawn me nearer to Christ and challenged me to be a more faithful Christian.

Once we conclude the study we will take a week off foe a time of coffee and fellowship at Perk.

See you in the morning.

10 Alive Recap

Friends,

We were few in number this morning but mighty in spirit – and a little damp.

Today we continued our discussion of Psalm 51.  Our text was verses 13-17.

 you do not take pleasure in burnt offerings.
 My sacrifice, O God, is a broken spirit;
 a broken and contrite heart

It’s only the one who appreciates the depth of their sin that realizes their need for a savior. David has been exposed as an adulterer, a murderer and a coverup artist.  He knows he needs forgiveness and he knows that good works are not going to make up for what he has done. He needs a new heart. (more…)

10 Alive Recap

Friends,

Tomorrow we continue our series on Psalm 51. Our text will be verses 13-17.

Then I will teach transgressors your ways,
    so that sinners will turn back to you.
 Deliver me from the guilt of bloodshed, O God,
    you who are God my Savior,
    and my tongue will sing of your righteousness.
Open my lips, Lord,
    and my mouth will declare your praise.
 You do not delight in sacrifice, or I would bring it;
    you do not take pleasure in burnt offerings.
 My sacrifice, O God, is a broken spirit;
    a broken and contrite heart
    you, God, will not despise.

To this point we have learned what it means to be truly repentant and why that is so important to maintaining a right relationship with God. Tomorrow we will discuss the impact a Christian in right relationship with God can have on the world.

I look forward to being with you in the morning.

John

Tuesday Morning Recap

Gentlemen,

Tuesday we continued our series on ‘A Love Letter to the Church.’

A change of mind must lead to a change of behavior. We must decide whose side we are on: God’s or Satan’s. If God’s, then they must acknowledge our sin and repent and start resisting the sinful tendencies in our flesh.  (more…)

10 Alive Recap

Friends,

Sunday we continued our study of Psalm 51.

Yet you desired faithfulness even in the womb;
    you taught me wisdom in that secret place.

 Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean;

    wash me, and I will be whiter than snow.
 Let me hear joy and gladness;
    let the bones you have crushed rejoice.
 Hide your face from my sins
    and blot out all my iniquity.

Tom noted that at the rate we are going we will finish this Psalm in 2017. : ) We have been taking small bites but each verse contains a wealth of truth. I encourage you to spend time during the week meditating on these verses.

Sunday we spent most our time discussing verse 6. We discovered that God does not make mistakes. Every life has value. He knew us before the foundation of the world and taught us wisdom in our mothers womb. Consider the significance of that truth! It speaks not only to the value of life but to the source of joy. We were created for fellowship with God. Without Him we have no purpose and no joy – we are lost. However, if we abide in Him and obey Him then we will experience joy.

I will be out of town next Sunday and Tom will be leading class. I look forward to being back with you in two weeks.

Tuesday Morning Recap

Gentlemen,

Last week we discussed confronting a sinning brother or sister.

We agreed that we would rather someone else be called upon for this task. It makes us uncomfortable and requires we step out of our comfort zone – isn’t that why we have pastors? (more…)
